<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"> <p>in this chapter, on the example of East Flanders (a region of Belgium), the pedagogical influence of urban public space on the socialization of children is considered. There are two points of view on the relationship between children and the urban area. It is possible to define relations from the point of view of the need to protect children from the dangers posed by the city, the signs of which are the spatial segregation of children into separate play spaces. Children should be able to move independently and safely around the urban public space in order to make full use of the communication opportunities offered by the city; this leads to the establishment of such criteria for the infrastructure of the city that would be favorable for children. At the same time, urban public space should be considered as a co-teacher. Three cases from the Belgian city of Gent are presented to illustrate this discussion.</p> </trans-abstract> <kwd-group xml:lang="ru"> <kwd>педагогика</kwd> <kwd>дети</kwd> <kwd>сегрегация</kwd> <kwd>игровой дизайн</kwd> <kwd>общественное пространство</kwd> <kwd>городской игровой сад</kwd> <kwd>игровая площадка для приключений</kwd> <kwd>Гент</kwd> </kwd-group> <kwd-group xml:lang="en"> <kwd>children</kwd> <kwd>pedagogy</kwd> <kwd>public space</kwd> <kwd>urban play garden</kwd> <kwd>adventure playground</kwd> <kwd>game design</kwd> <kwd>segregation</kwd> <kwd>Gent</kwd> </kwd-group> </book-part-meta> </book-part> </front> <back> <ref-list> <title>References</title> <ref id="ref1"> <label>1</label> <citation-alternatives> <mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Кугай А.И. И.
