В качестве теоретической основы используется институциональный анализ, позволяющий исследовать влияние формальных и неформальных институтов на управленческие практики организаций. Особое внимание уделяется концепции институциональных матриц С.Г. Кирдиной-Чэндлер, в рамках которой Россия и Китай рассматриваются как общества с доминирующей Х-матрицей. Показано, что институциональное сходство двух стран создает благоприятные условия для стратегической кооперации, однако различия в управленческих практиках и культурных моделях могут приводить к рассинхронизации совместных проектов.
