<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"> <p>the authors outlines that in Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, there were several discourses on the concept of corruption. It is pointed out that on the one hand, corruption was viewed in moralistic terms as a loss of virtue in relation to society; a generalized condition that randomly affects political elites and citizens. On the other hand, corruption is a narrow, legalistic view of this act as an abuse of public office for personal purposes, and, as in the modern sense corruption includes such actions as patronage, bribery, extortion and embezzlement. It is sometimes assumed that the first discourse was either unique or dominant discourse in the ancient “states”. However, this article will reveal that the problem of corruption as an abuse of power was developed in the classical period, especially in Athens and Rome. The concept of corruption in Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome from the point of view of discourse and practice will be analyzed.</p> </trans-abstract> <kwd-group xml:lang="ru"> <kwd>Коррупция</kwd> <kwd>меценатство</kwd> <kwd>вымогательство</kwd> <kwd>растрата</kwd> <kwd>подкуп избирателей</kwd> </kwd-group> <kwd-group xml:lang="en"> <kwd>corruption</kwd> <kwd>patronage</kwd> <kwd>extortion</kwd> <kwd>embezzlement</kwd> <kwd>bribery of voters</kwd> </kwd-group> </book-part-meta> </book-part> </front> <back> <ref-list> <title>References</title> <ref id="ref1"> <label>1</label> <citation-alternatives> <mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Aeschines.
