this article examines the issues of research on the functioning and development of state authorities of the USSR during the Great Patriotic War. This period of development of our society is one of the most dramatic periods in our history, when all the social institutions of the new society were tested for strength, and first of all the state authorities – the Soviets, which in the harsh war years assumed the heavy burden of military and economic tasks, played a crucial role in ensuring social and cultural needs the population, creating the necessary conditions to achieve victory in the war.
