IDEAS OF ENLIGHTENED ABSOLUTISM IN THE DIDACTIC TALES OF CATHERINE THE GREAT

Annotation

This article analyzes Catherine II's pedagogical tales—"The Tale of Prince Chlorus" and "The Tale of Prince Fevey"—as tools for shaping the personality of the future enlightened monarch. A connection is established between the political philosophy of enlightened absolutism, outlined in the "Instruction" of the Legislative Commission, and the educational principles laid out in these tales for the Grand Dukes Alexander Pavlovich and Konstantin Pavlovich.
