- Abstract:
- This chapter provides a comprehensive analysis of the revival of Orthodoxy in Russia at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. It highlights the key preconditions that enabled this process to begin after decades of uncompromising state antireligious policies, including the deep historical roots of Orthodoxy and the systemic crisis of Soviet ideology. It identifies and characterizes the key factors that played a decisive role in initiating and sustaining the dynamics of the religious renaissance, including political changes, the proclamation of freedom of conscience, the social demands of society, and the active internal activities of the Russian Orthodox Church. Particular attention is paid to the dynamics of the revival of Orthodoxy and the growth of religiosity among Russians as a whole-from a period of rapid quantitative growth to stages of qualitative development, institutionalization, and the emergence of new challenges. In the final section of the study, the author formulates a conclusion on the current state of development of the institutions of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Russian Federation at the time of the study.
