- Abstract:
- This article is devoted to attempts to create a soda sub-branch of the chemical industry in Russia in the 1860s. The author demonstrated the methods of industrial soda production, noted its importance and briefly described two small soda productions that arose at that time. In the course of the study, we came to the conclusion that soda production on them was based on the achievements of chemical science, which reduced dependence on natural raw materials. This makes it possible to designate Barnaul and Chistopol soda plants as knowledge-intensive for their time. It is concluded that soda production was one of the most important indicators of the level of development of the entire national chemical industry. And without the latter, the further industrial development of any country was impossible.
