- Abstract:
- The article is devoted to the history of the study of the craft of the Bilyar settlement within the framework of the activities of the Society of Archeology, History and Ethnography at the Imperial Kazan University. It is noted that, despite the rich historiography of Volga Bulgaria, many issues of craft organization remain insufficiently disclosed due to the difficulty of localizing production centers. The authors analyze the contribution of early researchers (A.F. Likhachev, S.M. Shpilevsky, V.V. Kazarinov, P.A. Ponamareva et al.) and collectors, whose works and collections laid the foundation for the identification of artisan quarters (for example, "Kuznechny Mar" and Kostoreznaya Sloboda). Special attention is paid to publications in Izvestia OAIE, minutes of meetings, exhibition activities and projects for the creation of a public museum, which reflect the evolution of approaches to the fixation, interpretation and popularization of craft tools.
