- Abstract:
- The article aims to investigate the problem of linguistic incorporation, which remains an understudied phenomenon, causing difficulties in understanding and translation in modern English. The research objectives include establishing the distinction between incorporative constructions and compound words, phrases, and sentences; identifying and describing the lexico-semantic classes of incorporative constructions; determining the stylistic affiliation of incorporative constructions; as well as modeling and justification of optimal ways to translate corporate constructions into Russian. The conducted research is considered relevant, as the mechanism of incorporation in modern English remains debatable in terms of the interpretation of incorporative constructions, which represent atypical formations for the analytical structure of the English language. A working definition of an incorporative construction as a special morphosyntactic unit is proposed. The research was conducted on material from incorporative constructions selected through a continuous sampling method from newspaper, magazine, and literary texts of the XX–XXI centuries, using contextual, comparative, categorical, semantic, and logical-comparative methods. A typologisation of incorporative complexes was carried out at the structural, semantic, and syntactic levels. Nominative, nominative-communicative, and complexes with modal evaluation incorporative complexes were identified. The main principles and strategies for translating the studied constructions into Russian, including compensation and sentence splitting, are outlined. It is concluded that incorporative constructions, representing a unique linguistic phenomenon, actualize deep morphosyntactic connections in modern English, contributing to the interlingual correlation of translated individual speech formations into Russian. The obtained results will help in recognising, understanding the semantic scope, and stylistically correctly interpreting the meanings of incorporated complexes.
