  • Semantics of anthroponyms in S. Snegov’s novel “People as Gods”

    Abstract:
    The article analyzes the central work of fiction by the famous Soviet science fiction writer of the second half of the 20th century, whose work was almost not considered in scientific works, and the problem of anthroponymy was not considered at all. The science fiction novel by S. Snegov “People as gods” served as the material for the study. Using contextual, mythological, structural-semantic and intertextual methods, an analysis was made of the proper names of the key characters in this work in order to better understand the author's intention. The protagonist's name, Eli, has an obvious connection with the biblical name El, which is found as a common and generic designation for God in various languages ​​and dialects of the Middle East. In addition, it is a direct reference to the title of the work, which contains the central question in the artistic system of the novel about man as a god-like being. The name of the protagonist's wife – Mary – is the English form of the Russian name Maria, which contains a high meaning, well understood by the Christian consciousness. In the complete absence of any external or internal similarity between the heroine of Snegov and the Virgin Mary, there is an associative connection between them: as a biologist, Mary is looking for ways to spread life on uninhabited planets. In addition, she is the mother of a boy named Astre, who in the novel is associated with the Person of the Gospel Savior. The semantics of the names of other characters also connects the ideological space of the work with the foundations of the Christian worldview. Thus, consideration of the names of the central characters gives the author the opportunity to show that the onomastic field in terms of anthroponyms is semantically connected with biblical motifs and plots. System analysis leads the author to the conclusion that anthroponyms in the novel create a special semantic space that contributes to a deep understanding of the author's intentions.

    Данное научное издание посвящено описанию свода исторической антропонимии всех 14 родов хори-бурят, извлеченных из ревизских описей Хоринской и Агинской степных дум Иркутской губернии 1830–1831 годов. В издании впервые комплексно описаны значения личных имен, имеющих до-тибет-монгольское, санскрит-тибетское и бурят-монгольское происхождение. В Словаре впервые системно представлен весь свод личных имен хори-бурят, извлеченных из фондов Государственного архива Забайкальского края. Впервые комплексно дан этимологический анализ личных имен до-тибет-монгольских, тибет-монгольских имен. Для специалистов по проблемам ономастики, сравнительно-сопоставительного языкознания, а также всех, кому интересна история, культура и этнография монголоязычных хори-бурят.

    Abstract:
    The article is devoted to the comparative analysis of personal names of pre-Tibet-Mongolian origin of the corpus of the historical anthroponymicon of the Khori-Buryats. The purpose of the article is to introduce the historical anthroponymicon of the Khori-Buryats as one of the Mongolian-speaking peoples written out from the censuses of the State Archive of the Trans-Baikal Territory for 1850–1851 in the aspect of comparative linguistics. One of the tasks of this study is to determine the preliminary meaning of names like Odo / Odoy / Otoy and, accordingly, the possible linguistic origin of these names. Materials and methods of research. The anthroponymic material is personal names with unclear semantics, written out from the censuses of 11 Khori-Buryat kins for 1850–1851 from the documents of State Archive of the Trans-Baikal Territory. It is known about the complexity of the ethnogenesis of any people, not excluding the Khorin Buryats as one of the Mongolian peoples. Historical anthroponyms of any ethnic group with an adequate «deciphering» of their meaning can serve as a kind of proof of the hypothetical participation of different tribal communities of the historical past, both in language and in their ethnicity, and of the peoples and territories of their modern habitat. The research methodology is based on the comparative method, the component method, and the comparative-historical method. The scientific novelty of the study of the names of the historical anthroponymicon is obvious for the following reasons: firstly, historical personal names that have been documented in archival documents have been introduced into scientific circulation; secondly, these names have not been studied for their ethnolinguistic before this article; thirdly, the preliminary results of the meaning of these names, and most importantly, their linguistic origin, have an absolute perspective for the development of many humanities, primarily Siberian onomastics, in the context of contrastivistics and comparative studies.

    Наречение именем – это важнейший инициационный акт, придающий новорожденному статус человека. В картине мира тюркских народов обряд имянаречения представлен разнообразием и многогранностью, отдельные элементы которого тесно взаимосвязаны. В статье предпринимается попытка анализа лечебных и защитных личных имен, обычаев и обрядов их имянаречения татар по диалектно-этнографическим материалам в сравнительном освещении с казахским и турецким языками. В картине мира тюркских народов в обрядах имянаречения существуют общность и некоторые особенные черты отличия.
