About the dictionary of Chuvash microtoponyms
Review ArticleEthnic Culture Volume 6 No 1- Authors:
- Dmitriy E. Leontyev, Eduard V. Fomin
- Work direction:
- World languages and literature
- Abstract:
- This study is devoted to the problem of the dictionary of microtoponyms existing in the Chuvash environment. Chuvash microtoponymy is one of the lexico-phraseological stratum that is being lost at a rapid pace, and its fixation currently seems more than relevant. Scientists have voiced the idea of such a publication many times, and have repeatedly begun collecting material, but it has never come to fruition. This publication is essentially a prospectus for the designed dictionary. The study is based on the analysis of a collection of names of small geographical objects created by students of the Chuvash state university in 2023. Lexicography of microtoponyms poses the task of codifying them, studying as a result of a specific extralinguistically determined naming of local geographical realities, as well as possible interlingual contacts with access to the problems of glotto- and ethnogenesis, clarifying the typological features of Chuvash naming in general. The authors propose a two-stage work on the project: first of all, the collection of toponyms and their publication in the form of annual collections, and secondly, the preparation and publication of the final dictionary. The indicated approach will prepare the basis for a general work on Chuvash microtoponymy.

Scientific Foundations of the Chuvash Language Textbook for 10-11 Grades
Research ArticleDevelopment of education Volume 4 No 4- Author:
- Yuriy M. Vinogradov
- Work direction:
- Дискуссия
- Abstract:
- The purpose of the article is to familiarize the reader with the content, structure and scientific foundations of the presentation of topics in the manuscript of the future textbook on the Chuvash language for students of grades 10-11 of schools with their native language of instruction. The research material is the manuscript of the textbook "Chuvash language" for grades 10-11 of schools with a native (Chuvash) language of instruction. The comparative-analytical method of research is used in the work. The manuscript was prepared in accordance with the program approved by the resolution of the Federal Educational and Methodological Association (Protocol No. 3/20 of September 17, 2020). This program is aimed at repeating and fixing the material of grades 5-9. In this regard, the manuscript includes relevant material for this purpose. The new topic is mainly the topic of "Language and speech economy". All topics are presented in accordance with the achievements of modern language theory. The author, as well as professor I.A. Andreev, believes that the study of the topic "Phraseology" is inappropriate. Studying a word out of connection with syntax does not reveal the essence of the use of certain affixes. For example, syntactic affixes can take both individual words and phrases. Therefore, morphemics and morphology should be presented in school taking into account syntax.

Describing Subjective Infinitive Constructions in Lexicographic Sources (on the Example of the Udmurt)
Research ArticleEthnic Culture Volume 3 No 4- Author:
- Sergey A. Maksimov
- Work direction:
- Special Theme of the Issue: Languages and Culture of Finno-Ugric people
- Abstract:
- The work is devoted to the actual problem of modern Udmurt lexicography – the issues of lexicography of combinations of a subject with an infinitive. The research material was composed of dictionaries of the Udmurt language. The work is based on a descriptive method. The purpose of the work is to study the transmission in Udmurt dictionaries of verb combinations expressing emotional and mental states and physiological phenomena in the form of infinitive combinations «subject + infinitive» and to suggest acceptable ways of their design. Udmurt lexicography has come a long way since its inception and achieved certain success. However, due to the lack of continuous work in this area, many problems remain unresolved. One of these problems is the registration in dictionaries of combinations associated with the expression of emotional and mental states and physiological phenomena. In living speech, such constructions often consist of a grammatical subject (yyr ‘head’, kӧt ‘belly’, lul ‘soul; breath’, vir ‘blood’, etc.) and a conjugated form of the verb, for example: yyr kur lue ‘me angry’, kӧt kurekte ‘I’m sad’, vir pote ‘blood flows, oozes’. In the Soviet period, the tradition of presenting verbs in dictionary entries in the form of an infinitive (affix -ny) was established in the Udmurt lexicography. Along with the publication of new dictionaries, the number of structures of the «subject + infinitive» type gradually began to increase, although the subject cannot enter into a syntactic connection with the infinitive, and such structures are not found in living speech. The paper describes possible ways to solve the problem under study, while for different groups of structures, slightly different solution models are proposed.

- Abstract:
- The work is devoted to the description of the life of the Turkish linguist H. Çıkgöz. For the first time in the history of Turkish science his scientific interests were directed to the Finno-Ugric peoples of the Ural-Volga region of Russia – the Mari and Udmurts. Methods. The work is written in the genre of an essay, many episodes of which are due to the author’s memories of the scientist. Results. The presented material can be used in the compilation of bio-bibliographic indexes and databases in the field of the study of the Turkic and Finno-Ugric languages of the Ural-Volga region. Discussion. As a scientist H. Açıkgöz had a wide range of scientific interests and systemic knowledge in various fields: in the field of modern linguistics and written monuments, medieval classical poetry and art in general. In Turkey he was a lecturer at Istanbul University, known as a philologist in his true sense. In Tatarstan he was known as a Türkologist, but few had any idea of the true scope of his scientific interests. In Mari El and Udmurtia they did not have time to recognize him, with the exception of a narrow circle of scientists. This work is useful in that it sheds light on his activities in the field of Finno-Ugric studies, which still remain in the shadows. A wide circle of scholars, both in Russia and abroad, still do not know that H. Açıkgöz was engaged in theoretical and practical study of the Finno-Ugric languages, compilation of the Mari-Turkish dictionary and translation of the dictionary of Tatar and Bashkir borrowings in the Mari language of N.I. Isanbaev.
