  • Assessment of the impact of ESG factors and capital structure on the market value of Russian public companies

    Abstract:
    The paper examines the impact of ESG factors and capital structure on the market value of Russian public companies. The relevance of the study is determined by the growing importance of sustainable development for investment attractiveness, the volatility of the Russian financial market and changes in the cost of debt capital in 2022–2025. Based on data for 19 non-financial public companies for 2016–2025, a panel database of 190 observations was formed, including market capitalization, assets, debt, return on assets, leverage ratios, RAEX ESG ranks and the average annual key rate of the Bank of Russia. Using pooled regression with robust standard errors, it was found that ESG score, return on assets and company size are positively associated with market value, while the growth of Debt/Assets and the crisis period of 2022–2025 have a negative effect. The results make it possible to develop recommendations for increasing market value through ESG development, debt control and improved asset efficiency.

    Abstract:
    В статье представлен комплексный анализ влияния ESG-факторов (экологических, социальных и управленческих) на банковское кредитование в части исследования правовых аспектов устойчивого развития. Автор рассматривает формирующуюся в Российской Федерации многоуровневую систему регулирования, сочетающую инструменты «мягкого права» Банка России с риск-ориентированными стимулами в рамках Таксономии. Выявляются недостатки правового регулирования, а также предлагаются пути их решения. Делается вывод о том, что в России складывается комплексная система правового обеспечения интеграции ESG-факторов в банковское кредитование, сочетающая методы мягкого регулирования, экономические стимулы и стандартизацию требований к раскрытию информации, что создает основы для формирования системы ответственного финансирования, ориентированную на достижение целей устойчивого развития при сохранении финансовой стабильности кредитных организаций.

    Abstract:
    In this paper, a study of the principles of ESG was carried out from the point of view of their implementation in the corporate governance system. To do this, the paper analyzes the ESG criteria by which it is possible to evaluate the company's activities in three areas: environmental, social and corporate governance. In the course of the study, we came to the conclusion about the importance of introducing ESG principles into the corporate governance system, about the active discussion in the scientific community of the issues of their further existence, the introduction of ESG principles into the company's management system from top to bottom, the dependence of the introduction of ESG principles into the corporate governance system on the industry and type activities.
