    Abstract:
    Graduates of maritime technical educational institutions must demonstrate proficiency in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) when performing their functional duties as part of a multinational crew. The knowledge, skills, abilities, and professional competencies that a specialist who has completed training at a maritime educational institution must possess are determined by national and international requirements, as well as by the professional standards of the relevant specialty. In order to improve the professional training of future specialists, enhance their competitiveness in the labor market, and strengthen the motivational component, the academic staff of universities undertakes a variety of efforts. These include the use of Internet resources, artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, and the like in the educational process. Such tools make it possible to diversify teaching methods, support individualized learning trajectories, and increase the accessibility of educational content. ESP instructors – and, in the case of maritime students, instructors of professionally oriented English – actively integrate into their daily practice materials obtained from various Internet resources and social media, as well as those generated with AI tools. The author shares the experience of using such resources in professionally oriented English classes to develop the professional competencies of future marine engineers.

  • Simulation Modeling of Professional Scenarios for Developing Oral Communication Skills in English for Electrical Power Engineering Students

    Abstract:
    The relevance of this study stems from the need to bridge the gap between classroom foreign language activities and the real-world communicative tasks that future power engineers face when operating equipment, conducting safety briefings, participating in international projects, and discussing technical regulations. The aim of the research is to theoretically substantiate, develop, and experimentally validate a methodology for using simulation modeling of professional situations to develop oral communication skills in English among students of electric power engineering programs. The material consisted of typical professional interaction scenarios selected on the basis of an analysis of industry documents and video recordings. The main methods included pedagogical modeling, a formative experiment, questionnaires, expert assessment of oral performances according to the criteria of fluency, terminological accuracy, and pragmatic appropriateness, as well as statistical data processing using Student's t-test. The developed methodology comprised three stages: pre-communicative preparation, group simulation of emergency situations, and reflective analysis of the completed tasks. The experiment was conducted over two semesters in undergraduate groups. The results demonstrated a statistically significant increase in speech coherence, accuracy of terminology use, and the ability to produce spontaneous reasoned statements. The findings suggest that the systematic integration of simulation modeling into an ESP course contributes not only to the improvement of speaking skills but also to increased motivation and the formation of students' professional identity.

    Abstract:
    The chapter addresses the formation of foreign language professional competence among engineering students in a non-linguistic university. Based on the analysis of current research, the structure of the competence is specified for technical profiles, including linguistic, professional-discursive, sociocultural and strategic components. The authors propose an educational technology grounded in the principles of professional orientation, integrativity and reflexivity, comprising diagnostic-motivational, formative, productive-communicative and reflexive-evaluative stages. The experience of implementing the technology with first-year students at a technical university is described, demonstrating increased motivation and the development of basic prerequisites for professional foreign language communication. The chapter is intended for foreign language teachers, researchers in language pedagogy, as well as master's and doctoral students in education.

    Abstract:
    В статье рассматривается лингводидактический потенциал технологий warming-up как структурного компонента практического занятия по английскому языку в медицинском вузе. Обосновывается необходимость адаптации традиционных подходов к речевой разминке с учетом специфики профессиональной подготовки будущих врачей. Анализируются психолингвистические механизмы, обусловливающие эффективность warming-up, и приводятся конкретные примеры упражнений для различных этапов обучения и уровней языковой подготовки. В статье также предложена авторская типология warming-up активностей для медицинских специальностей. Особое внимание уделяется интеграции данной технологии в общую структуру занятия на основе принципов ESP (English for Specific Purposes) и коммуникативно-когнитивного подхода. Статья адресована преподавателям иностранных языков медицинских вузов, методистам, разработчикам учебных программ по профессионально-ориентированному английскому языку.

  • Tools of generative artificial intelligence in teaching English for specific purposes

    Abstract:
    The article is devoted to the possibilities of using generative artificial intelligence (GAI) tools in teaching English for specific purposes (ESP). The article examines innovative approaches to learning, being necessary due to the rapid development of technology and requirements of the modern labor market. It analyzes the prospects of GAI in ESP context, including a comparative description of the most popular AI tools. The authors explore the functionality, advantages, and limitations of these tools, their impact on teaching a professionally oriented foreign language. Examples of the successful application of GAI in university courses are given. The emphasis is made on the development of communication skills and the adaptation of educational materials to specific professional fields. The article discusses the results of the empirical study showing positive changes in students' learning motivation and progress. The use of GAI contributes to more effective and personalized learning, improves vocabulary, grammatical accuracy and writing skills. However, the successful implementation of GAI requires additional knowledge and training of teachers, as well as focusing on the educational context. Special attention is paid to the need for a balanced approach when using GAI in order to avoid dependence on technology and preserve the positive experience gained in the process of applying traditional teaching methods.

    Важным звеном в реализации концепции языкового образования в системе современного высшего образования является преподаватель иностранного (английского) языка для специальных целей. Его цель – интегрировать иностранный язык в область важных для обучающихся дисциплин и преподнести иностранный язык в контексте будущей специальности в условиях квазипрофессиональной деятельности. В статье представлены результаты изучения исследований отечественных и зарубежных лингводидактов, методистов проблемы на предмет содержания профессиональной деятельности, функций и роли преподавателя английского языка для специальных целей в контексте языкового образования.
