    The chapter addresses the challenges of modernization and diversification of the Russian defense-industrial complex amid current geopolitical challenges and sanctions. It analyzes major domestic issues, including the need for innovative development, structural sectoral reforms, and critical vulnerabilities revealed through comparison with Western and Asian strategic competitors. Special attention is given to cooperation with BRICS and Eurasian partners, the development of new technologies, and the creation of flexible production chains. The chapter presents prospects for economic recovery and strengthening national security in the context of global transformations and international competition.

    Abstract:
    At the present stage, the economies of the BRICS countries occupy an important role in the world arena, being one of the main drivers of global financial growth. The number of countries willing to join the BRICS is constantly increasing. Trade within the BRICS countries, their partners and the rest of the world is also increasing. Due to the geopolitical crisis and the sanctions imposed on Russia, there is a growing interest in the use of national currencies in settlements between the BRICS member countries. This situation necessitates a detailed examination of the main features of the national currencies of the five BRICS member countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
