  • Psychological and Pedagogical Support and Linguosociocultural Adaptation of Students from Zones of Political Instability (Based on Preparatory Faculties for Students from Mashriq Countries)

    Abstract:
    The relevance of this study is driven by the growing number of international students from politically unstable regions in Russian universities and the insufficient development of a comprehensive approach integrating linguistic, social, cultural, and psychological aspects of adaptation. The aim of this work is to provide a theoretical substantiation and empirical verification of a psychological and pedagogical support model aimed at the linguosociocultural adaptation of preparatory faculty students from Mashriq countries. The article examines linguosociocultural adaptation as the inseparability of linguistic, social, and cultural components within the international educational environment. The materials comprise data from theoretical analysis of literature in educational psychology, intercultural communication, and andragogy, as well as empirical findings obtained from a sample of 120 preparatory students from Egypt, Libya, and Syria (2022–2025). Methods included questionnaires (Sociocultural Adaptation Scale, Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, and the authors' Academic Motivation Questionnaire), in-depth interviews, participant observation, and a pedagogical experiment. The ascertaining phase identified the leading factors of maladaptation: language barrier, culture shock, consequences of psychologically traumatic experience, and insufficient secondary school preparation. The developed support program integrated language training, individual psychological counseling, tutoring, and a series of intercultural events. The post-implementation assessment demonstrated a statistically significant increase in sociocultural adaptation indicators by 35%, an improvement in academic performance by 28%, and a significant reduction in anxiety levels. It is concluded that linguosociocultural adaptation requires simultaneous pedagogical and psychological support; the proposed model has proven its effectiveness and can be recommended for scaling to other categories of students from unstable regions.

  • Onomastic culture-specific term of the Arab world in rhyming slang

    Abstract:
    The article is devoted to the national and ethnic component of rhyming slang. The work focuses on the culture-specific terms of rhyming slang, reflecting the specific terms of Arab culture. The purpose of the study is to consider rhymes in linguistic and socio-cultural aspects, the names of which are associated with the countries and specific terms of the Arab world. The main research method is descriptive, implemented in the techniques of systematization, generalization and interpretation of linguistic material. Linguistic methods include contextual, definitional analysis and the method of semantic interpretation. The authors focused on a special layer of stylistic vocabulary, reflecting cultural, socio-cultural and cultural-historical specific terms in the context of cultural literacy and possessing linguacultural value. The research field included both obsolete rhymes that arose in the mid-19th century and established rhymes dating back to the 20th century, as well as relatively new rhymes dating back to the beginning of the new millennium. According to the research, onomastic rhymes based on precedent names dominate in speech with rhymed slang. The results of the research may be useful and interesting for specialists developing the topics of intercultural communication, linguacultural studies, linguastylistics, contrastive linguistics of English and Russian, and lexicology.
