the authors outline that the church reform of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich and Patriarch Nikon, adopted in 1650–1660, introduced the ideology of Old Orthodoxy or Old Believers into the world. It is noted that the need for uniformity of the liturgical rank of the Russian Church with the Church of Constantinople (Greek Church) brought a split into the country and forced believers to leave not just the cities and villages, but also Russia itself.
