This article examines a little-studied aspect of the work of the Russian poetess Countess Evdokia Petrovna Rostopchina (née Sushkova)—her influence on the cultural and educational environment of the Voronezh province in the 1830s and 1840s. This article explores the life and work of Cecilia Ivanovna Depner, a key figure in the history of private education for girls in the Voronezh province. It examines Depner's biography, the circumstances of the founding and operation of her boarding school (1829–1870), its curriculum, and educational system. It also examines the school's place among other private educational institutions for girls in Voronezh from the 1820s to the 1850s, and analyzes the reasons for its longevity and high reputation.
