Liability for knowingly false reports of terrorist acts in the context of digitalization

The article analyses criminal liability for knowingly false reports of an act of terrorism in the context of rapid digitalisation. The study is relevant due to the growing number of such crimes committed via social networks, instant messengers and anonymous online platforms - they significantly increase destabilisation, provoke panic and cause substantial economic damage. The key problems relate to qualifying the offence under Article 207 of the Russian Criminal Code: it is difficult to prove the element of «knowingness», identify anonymous users and collect digital evidence.
