the chapter examines the evolution of approaches to forming national identity in Russian school history education from the 19th to the first third of the 20th century and considers how this experience can be used in present-day teaching. Three stages are distinguished: the formation of the state model in the first half of the 19th century; the post-reform period, when the conservative canon coexisted with scholarly and liberal approaches; and the Soviet school, which abandoned history teaching and restored it in 1934.
