Interactive methods of teaching a foreign language: the possibilities of the Miro online platform

- Abstract:
- This chapter is devoted to interactive methods of teaching a foreign language using the Miro online platform. Combining traditional methodological approaches with the capabilities of modern online platforms such as Miro opens up promising areas in teaching foreign languages. The authors consider how this online platform can be effectively used to organize students' group work, increase their motivation and, as a result, improve the quality of learning. The potential of the platform is being explored, combining the theoretical foundations of interactive learning with practical experience using the platform. Special attention is paid to the role of active involvement of students in the educational process, the development of communication skills and the formation of intercultural competence. The authors substantiate the effectiveness of interactive methods for creating a favorable educational environment that stimulates creative activity and independence of students.

Virtual excursions as a means of improving professional foreign language skills in a non-linguistic university: cultural immersion approach

- Abstract:
- The article discusses modern approaches to foreign language teaching, emphasizing the use of virtual excursions as an effective method that promotes the development of language and cultural skills. Virtual excursions, which utilize contemporary digital technologies such as 3D modeling and augmented reality, provide learners with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the language environment and broaden their cultural horizons, which is vital in the context of international communication. The aim of the study is to demonstrate the potential of using virtual excursions in foreign language teaching at a non-linguistic university. The research was conducted at the Yakovlev’s University, where future teachers participated in a series of virtual excursions focusing on the history and culture of Great Britain. The research methodology included surveys, observations, and semi-structured interviews, allowing an assessment of the students’ language preparedness and engagement before and after the implementation of the innovative teaching method. The results showed a significant improvement in language skills, perception of authentic audio and video materials, as well as knowledge of the cultural aspects of the studied language countries.

- The objective of the research consists in developing and substantiating scientifically a necessity of such disciplines as digital literacy, digital safety, digital standardization, encryption means and Runet peculiarities embedded into the process of foreign language teaching in non-linguistic universities. The results of the conducted research allow to conclude that mastering a competent specialist during digitalization era requires the changes in the foreign language teaching content. It is especially crucial to take this factor into account to teach future journalists a foreign language. The chapter focuses on the method to develop the new competency in the area of digital safety while teaching journalists a foreign language.

- The chapter deals with the organization of the educational process in a technical university for master’s students in the discipline «Foreign language in the professional field» with the introduction of technologies of provocative pedagogy; the advantages of using these technologies in order to increase the interest of master’s students in the material being studied, the degree of assimilation of educational material, motivation and their effective interaction and compensation for the lack of a language environment have been revealed. The paper substantiates the need to use these technologies, techniques and teaching aids, depending on the level of foreign language proficiency of students; examples of tasks for the proposed technologies were given and an analysis of the effectiveness of the developed tasks was carried out.

Formation of Intercultural Competence of Primary Schoolchildren in Mastering Listening Comprehension Skills

- The article is devoted to the issue of teaching how to master listening comprehension skills while learning a foreign language in order to form the intercultural competence of primary schoolchildren. The relevance of the study is due to the need to create a fundamental basis for giving possibility to pupils to master communication skills in order being able to communicate effectively in a foreign language at a cross-cultural level, which is one of the strategic goals of modern linguistic education. The technology of phased work with authentic texts for mastering listening comprehension skills, including the stage of preliminary work and smoothing difficulties, the stage of listening and working with the text, the stage of post-listening and doing creative tasks based on the text is presented in the article. Research methods: scientometric analysis of scientific sources, pedagogical modeling, analysis of educational programs and standards, educational documentation and educational information on research studied, diagnostic methods, such as survey, experimental learning. Results. It is proposed to solve the problem by listening to authentic texts, as a purposeful process of mastering not only the linguistic, but also the cultural code of a foreign language, which is necessary to realize the principle of cultures’ dialogue. The educational goals in teaching primary schoolchildren how to master listening comprehension skills while learning a foreign language, as well as the methodological arguments for teaching listening comprehension as an independent type of speech activity are highlighted. It is concluded that this is not always the case when having a high level of foreign language communicative competence, students can achieve successful interaction at the intercultural level due to insufficient intercultural communication skills.
