  • Linguistic Means of Marxist Ideology Expression as Axiological Orientation of the Author in Joe De Graft’s “Sons and Daughters” and the Peculiarities of Their Translation into Russian

    Abstract:
    The article is devoted to the linguistic-axiological and translatological analysis of the first play by Joe de Graft “Sons and Daughters” from the perspective of Marxist theory. The research identifies linguistic and textual markers of the author's unique expressiveness, which illustrate J. de Graft's Marxist criticism of five key capitalist ideas: classism, commodification, individualism, consumerism, and imperialism. Eleven axiologically driven text fragments are subjected to stylistic and textual analysis, revealing various stylistically marked units operating at all linguistic levels. These units then undergo translatological analysis, identifying the translation transformations applied to the original text in order to convey the axiological content to the Russian reader. The results of the research confirm that the Ghanaian playwright uses an array of expressive means and stylistic devices to express his harsh criticism towards capitalist ideology; these EMs and SDs often enter into the relationship of convergence. It is worth noting that words expressing day-to-day realities are also used by the playwright axiologically; they help J. de Graft demonstrate his dissatisfaction with imperialism in Ghana, then a young African country. The text is significantly transformed in translation, which seems unsurprising since axiologically charged units pose a major difficulty while translating literary texts. Still, it is confirmed that the translator manages to convey the axiological meaning of the original text.

Подвергаются сомнению устоявшиеся стилистические модели, вводится понятие дискурсивного континуума и исследуется факт того, как корпусные методы и цифровая коммуникация трансформируют традиционные представления о стилевых границах. Особое внимание уделяется идентификации и характеристике инновационных гибридных форматов дискурса, таких как инфотейнмент, эдьютейнмент и бренд-журналистика, а также определению их уникальных стилистических характеристик.

  • Linguistic-Axiological Peculiarities of Fiction as a Translatological Issue (Based on Short Stories by Ghanaian Writer Ama Ata Aidoo)

    Abstract:
    The article is devoted to linguistic analysis of two short stories by Ghanaian writer Ama Ata Aidoo from the standpoint of linguistic axiology and translation studies. The research helps identify language and text markers of the author’s expressive means in 20 contexts taken from the short stories “For Whom Things Did not Change” and “Other Versions” from the short story collection “No Sweetness Here”. The axiologically filled contexts are identified based on the writer’s system of values as outlined by Russian and foreign literary critics. The research suggests that it is possible to delineate various language units functioning on all levels of the language – from phonology and graphics up to syntax. The axiologically marked units are then analysed from the perspective of translation studies in order to understand how the writer’s system of values can be expressed while translating her works into the Russian language. It is noteworthy that Ama Ata Aidoo uses a wide range of expressive means, often combining them, in order to convey her system of values. She also uses intertextual elements and titles for the same purpose. That said, the Russian translations of these short stories significantly transform the original texts, with some of these transformations being rather questionable. Nonetheless, the research makes it possible to assume that the system of transformations undertaken by translators helps them achieve the transmission of Ama Ata Aidoo’s values in Russian texts rather successfully.

    В исследовании найдены и рассмотрены различные примеры оксюморонов, которые в большинстве случаев встречаются в латинских афоризмах. В работе сделана попытка дифференцировать виды оксюморонов, проанализировать способы их перевода и выделить значение этой античной стилистической фигуры для понимания, восприятия, запоминания текста и пословиц. Данная работа может быть полезна и интересна для студентов, изучающих латинский язык, а также для преподавателей латинского языка, желающих расширить и углубить свои знания по стилистике древних языков.

    В статье рассматриваются синтаксические стилистические средства немецкого языка и их роль в поэтическом тексте. Подвергающиеся анализу поэтические произведения рассматриваются в их культурно значимом аспекте, что можно рассматривать как попытку реализовать междисциплинарный подход к исследованию стилистических особенностей художественного лирического текста и дает возможность проникнуть в семантическое пространство языковых единиц и текста, где и формируется соответствующая языковая и культурная картина мира. Материалом исследования послужили стихотворения немецких поэтов 60–70 гг. XX в. (эпохи ГДР). Исследование стилистических особенностей немецкой поэзии этого периода показало, что изучение художественного произведения с точки зрения экспрессивного синтаксиса играет особую роль, т.к. анализ использования стилистических средств в тексте стихотворения, стилистическое значение подтекста помогает раскрыть идейный замысел автора и понять эстетическую и эмоциональную глубину произведения.
