the article provides a comparative analysis of symbols and symbolic structures in the novels “The Book Thief” by the Australian writer M. Zusak and “The Golden Cloud” by the Soviet author A. Pristavkin. Despite the differences in cultural and historical context — the Holocaust in Nazi Germany and the deportation of peoples in the Soviet Union — both works share a typological similarity in their use of symbolic strategies to represent the children’s experiences of war.
