Models and Concepts of the Supernatural in Cases of Children’s Perception: The Experience of an Internet Survey
Book ChapterPedagogy and Psychology of Modern Education- Author:
- Leionis A. Van Khaaske
- Work direction:
- Глава 6
- Abstract:
- The study is devoted to analyzing the reports of childhood experiences with the supernatural. The source base is formed from the results of Internet survey conducted by the author. The author carried out a typologization of the sample from the survey data and proposed an interpretation that correlates the survey responds both with traditional folklore imagery and the psychological reasons underlying the event described by the respondent. The author comes to the conclusion that a kind of hypertext in the picture of such cases represented by the respondents is formed, which includes both references to traditional folklore and borrowings from mass culture. At the same time, in a number of cases the author raises the question that a psychological interpretation of the above descriptions as cases of mixing sleep and reality or phantom memories is possible.

- Abstract:
- The chapter is devoted to the study of some psychosocial issues of medical care for women with breast cancer during the COVID-19 pandemic. This topic is very relevant due to two main factors: the universal prevalence of cancer (and a constant increase in the incidence), as well as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in the world. At the same time, the purpose of the study was to study the attitude to this problem not only of women – patients, but also of their attending physicians. The objects of the study were 150 people, divided into 3 groups of 50 people each. Group 1 included patients of different ages with the first diagnosis of breast cancer, the diagnosis of which coincided with the beginning of the third wave of new coronavirus infection. The second group included women who were diagnosed with breast cancer even before the start of the pandemic (until 01.01.2020) and who were currently undergoing treatment or were registered for the disease. The third group included doctors of various specialties who treat patients in groups 1 and 2. The research was based on a questionnaire specially developed by the authors. The main part of the study was to determine the age composition of women with cancer, which made it possible to draw preliminary conclusions about the incidence of breast cancer among patients of different ages. Then the attitude of women to their disease and to the COVID-19 pandemic during each of its «waves» was studied in detail. An interesting feature of the study was the study of some social aspects of the management of women with cancer, such as: official employment, the ability to «take» sick leave, the presence of a Voronezh or regional registration, etc. The final stage of the study was the identification of the main fears of the objects of study of all three groups. The data obtained in the work are of certain interest for all physicians involved in the treatment of women with cancer.

The Image of Witch in the Documents of the Salem Witch-Trial
Research ArticleEthnic Culture Volume 3 No 1- Author:
- Leionis A. Van Khaaske
- Work direction:
- Ethnography, Anthropology and Folkloristics
- Abstract:
- The article attempts to reconstruct the image of a witch based on the interrogation records of those accused of witchcraft during the Salem trial (Massachusetts, North America, 1692) and related materials. The subject of research is the phenomenon of prosecution on those accused of witchcraft. The source base are the records of the Salem process, transcribed and published in 1977, as well as a number of documentary testimonies of witnesses, speaking from a puritanical viewpoint. The article examines the features of the mythological worldview of traditional society, dictated by the belief in supernatural influence (witchcraft). After analyzing the interrogation records of the first accused during this trial and considering a number of their biographical data, the author comes to the conclusion that the situation demonstrated by this trial is paradoxical: in fact, arbitrary people are subjected to persecution, and the reconstruction of the image of a witch that could underlie such accusations, does not seem possible. The author's conclusions are essential for the study of both the phenomenon of witch-trials and the mentality of traditional society. This article was conducted from an imagological perspective relevant to modern social studies.

- Abstract:
- This work is devoted to some aspects of the psychological adaptation of students of a medical university to the distance learning process during a pandemic of a new coronavirus infection. The presented research is relevant for several reasons, the leading of which are: the ongoing reform of the education and health care systems in our country – both of which affect students of medical universities and various aspects of their educational activities, including their psychological adaptation to it; as well as the global pandemic of the new coronavirus infection COVID-19 that emerged in 2020, as a result of which, almost all scientists at various levels around the world were forced to switch to distance learning. The purpose of this work was to identify and analyze some elements of psychological adaptation of students directly to the distance learning process. The objects of the study were 200 men and women, students of the medical faculty. A certain interest in the study is also due to the fact that the same students were involved in it for 2 semesters (spring and autumn) of 2020. In order to track the development of their possible adaptation mechanisms to distance learning, the level of anxiety, both personal and situational, was determined; identified various depressive states; determined the reasons for the main fears and concerns, both directly to the period of an unfavorable epidemiological situation, and to the distance learning process itself. The main points of psychological adaptation were identified, with the identification of factors contributing to them. This work is of certain interest for all higher school teachers involved in the educational process with students, as well as for psychologists and all kinds of researchers dealing with the psychological health of students.

- Abstract:
- The paper deals with the issue of complex treatment of patients with various oncological pathologies. General concepts of modern, approved by the Ministry of Health, approaches to the therapy of cancer patients, as well as the concept of an oncological consultation are generalized. Possible disadvantages of existing treatment methods are indicated, including the lack of qualified psychological support for patients. Some authors advocate the need to introduce psychologists and psychoanalysts into the oncoconsilium, since a positive attitude of the patient himself can have a positive effect on the overall outcome of the disease. The aim of the work was an attempt to analyze some aspects of the psychoemotional state of women with breast cancer throughout: from the state of «well-being» to the establishment of a clinical diagnosis, followed by a period of treatment; the study also includes 2 periods of «waves» of new coronavirus infection. The subjects of the study were 150 female patients suffering from breast cancer. All of them were divided into 3 groups of 50 women, depending on age: 20–39 years old, 40–59 years old, 60–80 years old. The study was carried out using a questionnaire (according to a questionnaire specially developed by the authors), as well as using the Zung and Spielberg methods. We studied the level of anxiety of the patients, the level of their depressive states, depending on the «control point» (a total of 5 were allocated, in which the research stages were carried out) of the study and the age of the patients. There were identified 2 main «peaks» of psychoemotional states – the moment of clinical diagnosis and the period of the «first wave» of a new coronavirus infection. It was during these periods that the level of anxiety increased in patients, and depressive states developed. Some interesting features were also identified: for example, if the greatest fears during the «first wave» were caused by fear of Covid-19, then during the «second wave» the problems of financial security and, in fact, treatment were at the fore. The data obtained may be of interest both for doctors who treat cancer patients and healthcare organizers, and for psychologists and psychoanalysts.

- Abstract:
- The article is devoted to the study of the characteristics of oncology patients’ psychoemotional status. This topic is relevant, since the number of detected cases of cancer is growing annually in Russia and around the world, the annual mortality from which in Russia alone is more than 160,000 people per year. It is outlined that the treatment of oncology patients is a complex and long process involving a wide variety of medical specialties. It is emphasized that the therapy for any malignant tumor is discussed and agreed upon by a special council, which usually includes a surgeon, oncologist, radiologist, chemotherapist, immunologist. However, many researchers acknowledge that often patients also need the help of a psychologist as a positive attitude can significantly help in the fight against a formidable disease. The study of psychoemotional aspects of oncology patients has already been carried out earlier. However, in 2020, the world is faced with a new threat – a new coronavirus infection, as a result of which the entire way of providing medical care has changed. The authors pay special attention to the fact that due to quarantine measures, even cancer centers were closed on a periodic basis, leaving, temporarily, patients in need without qualified assistance. It is the fact that determines the purpose of the work – the analysis of various aspects of oncology patients’ psychoemotional status. The objects of the study were 300 oncology patients, men and women, who were divided into 3 groups of 100 people, depending on their age: 18–40, 41–60, 60+. Then there was a further division into subgroups, depending on whether the oncology was newly diagnosed. The authors believe that the study is interesting since it was carried out in 2 stages – before the period of coronavirus infection and with its spread. The levels of situational and personal anxiety in patients were determined, various depressive states were identified, and patients’ main fears were indicated. The authors come to the conclusion that during a period of unfavorable epidemiological situation, the psychoemotional state of the patients worsened: the level of anxiety increased, various depressive states developed, and patients’ fears changed. The data obtained are of certain interest, both for practicing oncologists and psychologists, and for health professionals.
