    Abstract:
    The article discusses the issues of teaching the history of the Great Patriotic War in secondary schools. The fundamental thesis is as follows: the problems of preserving the memory of the war that arise in the modern Russian school are largely related to the socio-cultural context. The authors believe that the solution to the problem lies in the activation of educational technologies that initiate both intellectual and emotional aspects of a student's personality.

    Abstract:
    The article is dedicated to certain events in the military history of the Ulyanovsk region, showing the contribution of the region's residents to the victory over Nazi Germany. It presents an example of heroism and patriotism of Ulyanovsk residents – our fellow countrymen. The authors outline the important role of the Volga region, specifically the Ulyanovsk region in achieving victory due to its specific historical situation, geographical and strategic location. Ulyanovsk is the city where many enterprises evacuated from other cities of the country were situated: Moscow, Vitebsk, etc. The article describes the labour heroism that created the conditions for turning our region into a powerful military centre. The work allows to expand and consolidate knowledge about the history of the Ulyanovsk region in the young generation, to form a sense of civic consciousness.

    The most relevant and useful for today's Russia and its historical heritage is, first of all, the tradition of the organic unity of our peoples, which was developed and postponed in the course of our history as a result of everyday exercises in justice, mutual respect and harmony. Despite the fact that every Russian people has its own traditions, customs, languages, and heroic past – together they make up a common heritage.
