The Ontological Dimension of Everyday Life in the Mythopoetic Picture of the World
Research Article
Ethnic Culture Volume 3 No 2- Author:
- Natalia P. Ryabchun
- Work direction:
- Ethnography, Ethnology and Anthropology
- Abstract:
- The article deals with the concept of a home in traditional culture. It is argued that in the mythopoetic tradition, universal principles of creating a house were formed. This deserves attention today, because the main thesis in the concept of a home was the idea of the ontological dimension of everyday life, of the close connection of the spiritual and the material, of the connection of philosophical ideas and everyday actions. In traditional culture, everyday life was associated with the origins of being, was the sphere of application of creative forces. The object of research is the practice of building peasant houses in the medieval period, as well as in the XVIII-XIX centuries, their architecture and interior, their relationship with the surrounding landscape. The author uses general historical, semiotic and hermeneutical methods of research. The article systematizes the architectural principles of building a traditional home, which made the peasant house a prototype of the cosmos, a model of the universe. The author analyzes such structural elements of the mythological picture of the world as the tree of life, the world axis, the cross, the sacrifice, and their application in architecture. The author considers the ideas about the heterogeneity of space in the mythological culture and how they were used in the construction of the house; the function of doors, windows, gates in the symbolic structure of the house is investigated. The conclusion is made about the trinity of information, energy and matter in traditional culture.

Research Article
Ethnic Culture Volume 3 No 2- Author:
- Elena L. Iakovleva
- Work direction:
- Folklore Studies
- Abstract:
- A significant layer in the culture of an ethnic group is folklore, which includes a variety of folk art. It expresses the knowledge and experience of the people. Proverbs and sayings, where the centuries-old wisdom of the ethnic group is conveyed in a concise form, concerning different spheres of life, are of interest for learning. Thanks to proverbs and sayings, it is possible to reconstruct the national picture of the world and its components, but often this aspect remains out of the field of attention of scientists. In this regard, the aim of the study was the proverbs and sayings of the Tatar people concerning food. The hypothesis is put forward that the proverbs and sayings of the Tatar people are able to identify the characteristic features of the gastronomic culture of the Tatars, which includes culinary culture, the culture of eating and gastronomic reflection. The key research methods are analytical and hermeneutical. On their basis, the Tatar proverbs and sayings collected in the 6th volume of the publication «Tatar Folk Art» of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan edited by H.Sh. Makhmutov are studied. As a result of the analysis, the respectful attitude of the ethnic group to food, the production and preparation of which is associated with hard work, was highlighted. The Tatars reflected their love for certain products and dishes, formulated tips for housewives on farming, paid attention to moderation in food and etiquette in proverbs and sayings. The study confirmed the hypothesis. It is concluded that the acquired knowledge allows us to reconstruct the national picture of the Tatars of the Middle Volga region and the Urals from a new perspective through the prism of proverbs and sayings, to interpret their national culture and many of its components, including everyday life and everyday life.

Interdisciplinary Potential of Oral History and New Ways of Developing Historical Knowledge- Authors:
- Chzhen'din Chzhou, Siui Tszin
- Work direction:
- Устная история: методологические поиски и новые методы исследований
- Abstract:
- In recent years, there has been a boom in the study of history using oral narratives in both Chinese and foreign historiography. Oral history, as a form of historical research, has played a unique role in promoting the popularization of historical knowledge among the public, and in the late 1970s Chinese historians began to study oral history. Over the next three decades, the study of oral history has expanded and deepened, and it has developed into a branch of the historical discipline. History is a discipline with a long tradition, and one that is constantly being updated as human society evolves. Each era has its own historiography, and each era has a different style and philosophy from its predecessors. Modern oral history, as a new form of historiography, inherits traditional historiography, but has developed its own unique characteristics in terms of research philosophy and methodology, and its most distinctive feature is its breakthrough and expansion of traditional historiography in many ways. This is mainly manifested in the extending of the object of research in oral history, the significant increase in the content of research, and the move from a single means of research to multiple forms of research.

Ethnic Culture Volume 3 No 1- Authors:
- Elena G. Gushchina, Danila V. Egorov, Arslan K. Mingaliev
- Work direction:
- Ethnography, Anthropology and Folkloristics
- Abstract:
- In the article the authors on the basis of materials, consider the issues of preserving cultural traditions of the Russian population of the Middle Volga region, namely the revival of the Pentecost church-ale in 20–21 centuries on the example of the Russian national center of Aksubaevsky district of the Republic of Tatarstan. The experience accumulated over the thirty-year history of the revival of the holiday has not yet become an object of study of scientists, which determines the relevance of our work. The aim is to consider the features of the local version of the celebration of the Pentecost and the specifics of the revival of folk tradition in the modern world. The authors used general historical methods and special methods of ethnology: included observation and in-depth interview. Pentecost in its original meaning is a church festival. But it also incorporated folk traditions, customs and rituals. In Soviet times the celebration completely lost its former significance, the church service on the Whit Monday (Pentecost) was also not performed. Thanks to the initiative of local residents, the celebration of the Pentecost was resumed, which was a vivid example of the positive ethno-cultural experience of the revival of local ritual practices of the Russians of the Middle Volga region.

- Ethnic and Ethno-Cultural Processes in Modern Society
- Abstract:
- The article is devoted to the most famous ancient sanctuary of the northern Selkups – Shaman Mountain Lozyl-lakka on Lozyl-to Lake. The purpose of the study is to combine the information available about it in the scientific literature and in the author's field archive and to find out what this object of the sacred landscape is. The research methods were description, semantic analysis and fieldwork. The result of the study was the conclusion that Lozyl-lakka is a family sanctuary, where sacrifices were made to the spirits-masters of the ancestral fishing grounds, on which the success of members of the clan in the trade "depended". The memory of the sanctuary has survived to this day due to its location in a remarkable natural place. It was also found that the sacred mountain serves as an indicator of the state of the modern ethnic identity of the Selkups. It is characterized by the preservation of faith in spirits and strict adherence to a number of traditions that this belief dictates, therefore, the process of transformation of traditional culture into new modern forms among the Selkups, which is ongoing among the northern peoples today, is hampered by the vitality of some elements of this very traditional culture. A separate comprehensive study of the Lozyl-Lakka sanctuary, including the standpoint of the attitude of modern Selkups, constitutes the scientific novelty of the study. The publication of summary data on the sanctuary preserves it as part of the cultural heritage for future generations of Selkups and replenishes the data bank of ethnographic science.

Role of Folk Art in Ethnocultural Education of Children and Youth

Theoretical and practical aspects of pedagogy- Authors:

- Глава I. Современные тенденции развития образования
- Abstract:
- The authors of article review a current problem of ethno-cultural education of youth through familiarizing with art and ornamental culture, folk art and traditions of small nationalities of Outer Manchuria of the Far Eastern of Russia. The authors outline that patriotic education is indisputable problem today, and the task of revival, promotion, maintenance of national culture as well as the formation of the harmonious personality is set out by ethno-cultural education itself. It is noted that a necessary condition of this formation is ethno-cultural competences which are built in at children's age. Teaching to respect traditions begins in families, and then continues at schools, higher educational institutions and institutions of additional education, the ethno-cultural centers. Spiritual communication of national masters and their pupils is based on continuity of generations. It is emphasized that today a lot was lost in arts and crafts of Outer Manchuria. The loss of valuable knowledge as their carriers pass away, leaving this knowledge to younger generation is observed. The question of their preservation is particularly acute. The authors come to the conclusion that this question should be solved in educational institutions by means of introduction of the integrated programs that have an ethnic and art component and modern pedagogical technologies in their contents. Author’s experiment demonstrates revival of interest in folk art in children and youth, in particular, in future teachers-artists.

Revisiting Axiological Aspects of the Doll Phenomenon Under the Conditions of Cultural Paradigm Change
Research Article

- Problems of Ethnic Cultures Preservation
- Abstract:
- This article analyzes the phenomenon of dolls in the process of transition from the traditional type of society to the postindustrial one. The authors outline that being a kind of mirror of the era, the doll phenomenon is inextricably linked with cultural norms and values, all social experience, which determined the stability and continuity of various activities. It is also noted that in the process of historical development, the image of the doll undergoes transformation, as does the image of the person himself. The inclusion by the authors the axiological characteristics of the doll phenomenon in the worldview coordinates of cosmo- and anthropocentrism makes it possible to reveal their new quality. The consideration of the doll as a phenomenon from this methodological position opens up new possibilities in understanding the existential essence of man himself. The purpose of the article is to analyze one of the most relevant aspects of the doll phenomenon in modern conditions – a qualitative change in its axiological content and significance in culture. Research methods: historical-comparative and semiotic. The result of the study is the identification of significant changes in the role of dolls in modern culture. It is emphasized that the value orientations of secular society and a desacralized, materialistic worldview result in dehumanization and objectification of the person himself with a pronounced desire to revitalize and humanize the doll. The development of anthropocentric attitudes has reached its limits, as evidenced by the shift in the semantics of dolls into the field of purely formal, external relations and meanings.

- Problems of Ethnic Cultures Preservation
- Abstract:
- The article is devoted to the theme “Thing in culture”, and more specifically, “Thing in Selkup culture”. The aim of the study is to consider the belt, an attribute of the traditional outer clothing of the Selkups. It is outlined that the preservation of this element of culture can be highly estimated: during field work among the Selkups, author had an opportunity to see various belts, male and female ones, stored in families and presented in museums. It is emphasized that the Selkup belts are very beautiful, bright, decorated with seed bead and cast brass pendants. The article contains information about the origin of each type of belt, as well as their description is presented in the article. Methods: author's field research in the Krasnoselkupsky district of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug made in 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2018, interview of informants, a number of author's publications on Selkup culture; comparative and typological method and description method. The classification of the belt is based on such characteristics as the technic of execution, origin, application and symbolism. The author outlines that information about the symbolism of the belt was especially difficult to collect, since all informants noted in the belt only the functionality, beauty and antiquity of the tradition of wearing it. Without pretending to be a full disclosure of the topic, the author presents a summary of data obtained and collected. Results of the study. Putting on traditional belts only on big (winter) holidays along with national clothes, Selkups practically do not make new belts nowadays. It is pointed out that belts stored in museum collections are generally not attributed. Study devoted to belts returns to the Selkups the element of their traditional culture in the form of a scientific description. It is assumed that the study will contribute to the formation of a new ethnicity of the Selkups, the collection and rethinking of cultural heritage by the Selkups.

- Methodological Questions for Studying Ethnic Processes
- Abstract:
- The author outlines that in “current modernity” (Z. Bauman), among the urgent problems of research, one can name tradition, which is the foundation of culture. Many of its components are among those that are difficult to comprehend, and national cuisine is among them. Methods of research. In the presented article, national cuisine is examined through the prism of an analytical method that allows you to identify authentic ways of studying and showing its versatility. In the course of the research, a theoretical analysis of the methodological basis for the study of national cuisine as a phenomenon of gastronomic culture was carried out. It is noted that being a unique phenomenon of the traditional ethnic culture, national cuisine has its own gastronomic code and contains information about the specifics of the people’s life, encrypted through processes related to food and its preparation. The author pays special attention to the fact that the most effective methods of researching national cuisine are structural, phenomenological and hermeneutic. They help to identify designs and highlight the structural components of national cuisine (culinary culture, culture of eating and gastronomic reflection), study and analyze them with the help of feelings and experience as a direct connection to each of them, comprehend the process of cooking based on the culinary recipe and the process of tasting, reveal the symbolic meanings of the elements of national cuisine and establish their origins. Results of research. The simultaneous use of phenomenological, structural and hermeneutic methods contributes to the comprehension of the gastronomic code of the people and the peculiarities of their cuisine. The knowledge gained allows us to interpret not only the secrets of national cuisine, but also the history and culture of the ethnos from new perspectives.

- Problems of Ethnic Cultures Preservation
- Abstract:
- Authors of the article pay a special attention to the consideration of traditions and innovations in the dynamics of ethnosocial organism development, since the last decade, the blurring of lines of ethnocultural identity on a global scale has become more obvious. Aggressive penetration into the territory of many states by a pro-Western faceless pseudo culture led to a loss of life orientation at the genetic level and the prospects for the existence of most ethnic groups. The aim of work is to search, identify and analyze the main structure-forming principles, the main provisions of which can preserve a unique and inimitable core of ethnocultural organism in a practical application, give a vector of a further more qualitative state. Methods. Using the principles of formal logic, functionalism, and a systematic approach, it was possible to determine the stages of the origin, transformation, and structural integration of cultural innovations in the ethnic environment. Characteristics of each stage from the side of a positive direction as well as a negative one, leading to the degeneration and decay of the ethnocultural system, is presented. As a result of the study, methodological approaches to preserving ethnic cultures, based on traditional ties in relations within the people were identified. These principles are, in authors’ opinion, invariable mechanisms of the dynamic, progressive development of any ethnic group, if the ethnocultural identity of all mankind is perceived as a conscious, creative way for the development and preservation of an ethnos.

- Abstract:
- The theoretical, methodological and legal problems of the «intangible cultural heritage» as a social phenomenon is considered as well as the foundations of state policy in relation to monuments of cultural and historical heritage are defined. It is noted that the essence of this phenomenon – the preservation of the intangible cultural heritage - should be considered in two aspects: in a narrow and broad sense of this phenomenon. In a narrow sense, the essential characteristic of the institution in question refers to cultural, ethnic, personal identity. In a broad sense, the essence of this social phenomenon implies a number of aspects: ontological, epistemological, functional, philosophical, normative (regulatory), programmed, instrumental (methodical). A well-thought-out socio-cultural policy aimed at reviving and preserving the cultural heritage should be harmoniously implemented at the federal, regional, local (municipal) levels.
