- Abstract:
- Learning is working with a variety of educational texts based on reading, understanding, evaluating and interpreting information. To identify the result of reading an educational mathematical text and the quality of understanding the meaning of the text space created by educational materials, it is necessary to diagnose reading, namely, the level of semantic reading. In the modern study of reading, the PISA international monitoring, the concept of reading literacy, its components and levels are defined. The success of understanding more complex educational mathematical texts will depend on the level of reader literacy. If the levels of reading literacy have evaluation criteria and diagnostic apparatus, then how to assess the level of semantic reading? The article examines the relationship between the levels of reading literacy and text comprehension, models for assessing the semantic complexity of the text and semantic reading skills, various level structures for diagnosing the understanding of a mathematical educational text. Based on the studied scientific material, the complexity of the educational mathematical text "Triangle" was assessed according to criteria such as the number of words, simple words, scientific terms and their complexity, the number of mentions of scientific terms in each paragraph. Diagnostic material has also been created to check the understanding of this text, each task of which is aimed at determining the understanding of each information block and assessing the degree of development of semantic reading.

- Pedagogy and Modern Education
- Abstract:
- The article is devoted to the urgent problem of formation of reading literacy of modern schoolchildren, which is interpreted as the most important type of functional literacy, based on the ability to operate various types of texts, understanding their deep meaning and correct interpretation. The authors reveal the specifics of the formation of reading literacy in Russian language classes, using regionally colored texts as a meaning-forming content component. The materials of the article reflect the data of the pedagogical experiment, which allows to adjust the methodological strategies of the teacher in a significant way. The authors state that despite the need to comply with the normative requirements set forth in the updated FSES, modern teachers do not work on the formation of functional literacy in the system. A comprehensive analysis of the educational results of the educational process allowed the authors of the article to argue that the content basis of lessons aimed at the formation of functional literacy can be regionally colored texts that allow building lines of in-depth dialogue against the background of understanding the meanings of the culture of the small homeland.

- Psychology in Education
- Abstract:
- The relevance of the research is due to the increasing use of the Internet and the lack of reliable information about the Internet exposure on higher mental functions of the users of different age. The aim of the study is to detect the short-term effect of the Internet use on indirect memorization in adults. The study has been conducted in terms of intraindividual quasi-experiment, that assessed the accuracy of memorization in two conditions: traditional reading (a book), web-search (a mobile phone). The pictogram test in the author’s variant was the main tool to assess the memory of adults. The research was held among teachers during classes of training courses (n=50; 12 males, 38 females; average age 44,56±4,11). To implement a scheme of a positionally equalized sequence of sampling, the sample was divided into 2 groups. In the results, one third of the sample showed the same level of accuracy in memorizing words in different conditions. Most of the participants demonstrated positive trends while reading (р≤0,01). While the number of mistakes was three times more for the web-search.

- Abstract:
- The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between the use of reading strategies and reading achievement between high and low EFL university students in Ethiopia. To this effect, sixty students were selected (30 top high achievers and 30 least low achievers) using stratified sampling technique. The Survey of Reading Strategies and Reading Comprehension Test were employed to discover students’ reading strategy use, and to measure their reading ability respectively. Thus, thirty reading strategies of the survey and fifty reading comprehension questions were administered to students. The data gathered was statistically analyzed through descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test and Pearson correlation. The findings of the study revealed that High achievers adopted a diverse and more reading strategies in higher frequency compared to low achievers. This difference between the groups was significant. The result also showed that there was a relationship between students’ three main strategies use (i.e., global, problem-solving and support reading strategies and their reading achievement). Based on the findings, it was recommended to raise awareness to enhance students' use of various strategies at higher frequency and the low achievers must be encouraged to use the reading strategies more frequently in general and global reading strategies in particular.

About N. P. Steinfeld’s Comparative Besermian Dictionary
Research ArticleEthnic Culture Volume 5 No 1- Author:
- Sergey A. Maksimov
- Work direction:
- World languages and literature
- Abstract:
- The work is devoted to the study of one of the first written sources representing the Besermian dialect. Such sources are of particular importance, because the problem of the ethnic history of the Besermians is still debatable. In the work the descriptive method and partly the method of etymological analysis were used. In the analysis of the vocabulary material, special attention was paid to the correct reading of words and their interpretation. N. P. Steinfeld did not develop a clear system for transmitting the sounds of the Besermian dialect. However, it seems to us that the confusion in fixing words is primarily a reflection of the pronunciation features that the compiler of the dictionary tried to catch in the process of fixing each word. In some cases, he noticed such features in the speech of the Besermians that eluded even experienced linguists. As for the vocabulary, it should be said that most of the Besermian words have a common Udmurt distribution. The proximity of the Besermian dialect not only to the Northern, but also to the Southern dialect of the Udmurt language is observed. There are few own Besermian lexical units. Among them there are Tatar and Chuvash loanwords that are absent in other dialects. In this source, we have not identified Bulgarisms used only in the Besermian dialect.

- Abstract:
- The article is devoted to the peculiarities of the formation and development of library management of the Chuvash Autonomous Region. The purpose of the article is to consider the state of library management in Chuvashia in the 20s of the twentieth century and the main activities of reading huts and libraries in raising the educational and cultural level of the population in the period under review. The article is written on the basis of a thorough analysis of a wide range of literature on the topic, statistical collections, the study and selection of materials from central and local state archives, most of which are introduced into scientific circulation for the first time. It was revealed that in the years under study, many methods of mass work were developed and tested in practice, which, being improved at subsequent stages in connection with new tasks, have been used and used by libraries to this day: thematic book exhibitions, review evenings, literary evenings, evenings for discussion of new works of fiction, long-term mass campaigns to promote relevant books and libraries among the population, etc. It is concluded that libraries and reading rooms during the period under study gradually gained experience in cultural and educational work: from the mechanical issuance of books, passive service of readers to the search for methods of active work among the masses. By the mid-1920s, libraries and reading rooms began to switch to more organized and planned work.

- Abstract:
- The article is focused on the problem of teaching blind elementary schoolers in literary reading lessons in elementary school. The relevance of the topic is due to the need to bring into compliance the content of the education of children with severe visual impairments with the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standards for blind students (option 3.2). At the present time, teachers of schools for blind children continue to experience difficulties in adapting the content of education in this subject. The aim of the article is to analyze and summarize the existing typhlopedagogical experience of teaching this group of children and to determine the directions for adapting the content of teaching literary reading to blind elementary students. Methods used in this study include analysis, description, and comparison. An analysis of the typhlopedagogical heritage suggests that teaching reading to blind elementary schoolers has a number of peculiarities due to the negative impact of visual impairment on their speech and cognitive development, motivation for activity; this can be overcome by adapting the content of education. In their turn, the directions of adaptation can be reached by adjusting the contents of textbooks, enriching the children’s sensory experience, developing their speech and thinking, and using a differentiated approach in teaching by redistributing educational material and developing assessment criteria that are appropriate for the blind students’ needs. The results of this study have important meaning for employees of schools for visually impaired children because they allow to implement a differentiated approach in teaching and to adapt the contents of the Literary reading school subject according to the special educational requirements of children.
