The article presents approaches to understanding the main purpose of teaching a foreign language in secondary schools – the formation and development of students’ foreign language communicative competence. The article analyzes the researchers' points of view on the content of this concept and its complex structure, consisting of such components as speech, language, socio-cultural, educational, cognitive and compensatory ones.
The article is devoted to the complex problem of primary language teaching related to the use of educational technologies that promote both the stimulation of learning activities and the speech development of students.
