Development of Educational and Research Independence From the Perspective of Medical University Students

- Introduction: As a full-fledged Bologna process participant, Kazakhstan is continuously implementing reforms aimed at medical education, impacting country's human capital. The professional capable of a lifelong learning is the main goal of modern education. The central role in reaching this goal is entrusted to the higher education. The relevance of our study lies within the curriculum changes with more hours for students’ independent work, which is the main method of obtaining reliable information and acquiring competence for lifelong learning. The aim of our study was to evaluate the students’ opinion on the self-study system at the Karaganda Medical University, revealing existing difficulties in the students’ acceptance of the Bologna process requirements, identifying methods to increase their involvement in self-education and scientific research. Materials and Methods: an anonymous survey was conducted among the 426 of the 3rd – 7th year and residency students, including 20 questions to identify students’ attitude to the individual work methodology as a factor for the development of skills for lifelong learning. Results and Discussion: the majority of students are voluntarily involved in the independent learning, understand its purpose, and use English-language sources with reliable up-to-date information. Less than half of the students evaluate their skills of information search and presentation as «average» and only about a quarter of them as «high». More than half of the students demonstrate interest in increasing their level of competence with these skills. Conclusions: Our study demonstrated that since the Republic of Kazakhstan accession to the BP the «Karaganda Medical University» successfully integrates new educational requirements into the educational process. Higher education system needs further improvement to better understand the students, remove barriers to progress and preserve students’ motivation to further develop personal potential.

- The need to study academic engagement and its psychological components is due to the fact that some university students do not study in full force, do not master the necessary knowledge and competencies. The goal was to highlight the psychological components of student engagement in learning, as well as to study the connections between them and academic performance as an effective component of engagement. The methods used were “Emojis” (V.V. Gizhitsky), “Diagnostics of educational motivation of students” (N.Ts. Badmaeva), “Self-assessment of emotional and personal well-being” (G.A. Glotova, L.V. Karapetyan), pilot author's questionnaires “Inclusion in learning” and “Academic microdeviations”. Also, students gave information about the performance of past semesters and the course of study at present. The pilot study conducted by the online survey method involved 83 university students aged 16–26 years. Correlation analysis (according to Spearman) was used in the data processing. As a result of the study, multiple reliable correlations were obtained between psychological indicators of student engagement in learning, such as attitude to learning, motives of learning, inclusion in learning, emotional and personal well-being, behavior of students in classes in situations of fatigue or in the absence of interest in the studied material; it was revealed that the indicators of attitude to learning, inclusion in learning in seminar and practical classes, educational, cognitive and professional motives of learning, as well as “conditionally productive” academic microdeviation are significantly positively correlated with academic performance.

- The article is devoted to the study of some psychosocial and psychoemotional aspects of medical students and their parents and relatives living together. The work is relevant, as the pandemic of the new coronovirus infection COVID-19 is currently ongoing in Russia and in the world. The study is also interesting in that despite a number of works by various authors – scientists and teachers of higher education studying aspects of the psychoemotional state of students, very few works are devoted to their relationship and the dynamics of these relationships with their loved ones – parents and relatives, especially against the backdrop of a pandemic of a new viral infection., which was the aim of this study. The objects of the study were 359 people. The 1st and 2nd groups included 100 students, men and women, of the medical faculty of VSMU. N.N. Burdenko (5 course); Group 3 consisted of 159 people, men and women, who were related to representatives of group 2 and lived together with them. The study was based on an anonymous questionnaire specially developed by the authors, aimed at studying the gender and age composition of the respondents, identifying the main psychosocial and psychoemotional interactions of the objects of study, including determining the conditions of their residence and determining the circle of persons living with them; determining the main aspects of their interpersonal relationships, including their «warmth» and the frequency of quarrels and omissions; determination of susceptibility to stress in the objects of study, the severity of anxiety in certain periods of life and the possible presence of true depressive or depressive-like states in them. - In the article, the authors present a positive experience of working with students, aimed at creating a culture of interethnic relations among young people. The materials and methods of the study were examples of the organization of students' activities aimed at fostering values traditional for the Russian multinational culture, interethnic friendship. The student sphere, in which various attitudes of students develop in the context of interethnic and interethnic interaction. The results of the study and their discussion: activities are identified, the focus of which is shifted to the support and preservation of the Russian language. Organization of literary evenings dedicated to the life and work of Russian poets and writers. In the article, the authors gave an example of the organization of a volunteer detachment. Students actively participate in charitable events in the city of Kostroma (manufacturing of souvenirs, providing hairdressing services to vulnerable segments of the population, concert activities). Based on the study, the following conclusions can be drawn: the educational organization implements projects and activities aimed at forming a respectful attitude of young people towards the older generation, towards representatives of other nationalities and religions, the formation of an active life position, assistance, successful socialization.

- The chapter is devoted to the study of the opinions of students of N.N. Burdenko VSMU regarding the further format of lectures in the «post-COVID» period. The presented topic is very relevant, since at present the pandemic of a new coronavirus infection that arose in 2020 has begun to decline – there is a daily widespread decrease in detected cases of the disease. For students of higher educational institutions this means the gradual removal of various kinds of restrictions – a smooth transition from the forced distance period to the classic full-time format. The purpose of this work was to determine the attitude of medical students in general to the lecture material, both as part of an integrated learning process, and to determine the attitude directly to its full-time – traditional and remote presentation. The objects of the study were 300 students of the medical faculty of the N.N. Burdenko Voronezh State Medical University, divided into three groups of 100 people, depending on the course – 2, 4, 6. The study was based on an original questionnaire specially developed by the authors, which became the basis of an anonymous survey. It can be said that the main direction of the study was to determine the opinion of students regarding the possible transition of lecture material in the next semester to full-time – the traditional format. At the same time, the study of positive and negative aspects, both remote and full-time lecturing, was of great importance in the work. The results obtained are also particularly interesting because all students of the first group (2nd year) have never had the experience of attending lectures in full-time format – after all, their admission to the university took place after the start of the pandemic. The data obtained in the work are of interest to teachers of various departments of a medical university, and the opinions of students can be taken into account and used in the future when planning the format of lecturing.

- The chapter examines the category of verbs with reflexive meaning, draws analogies with similar verbs in some foreign languages, raises the problem of using an intermediary language when presenting grammatical material to foreign students, provides a comparative characteristic of verbal units with reflexive meaning in English and Russian, justifies the expediency of teaching foreign English-speaking students reflexive verbs of the Russian language on the basis of comparative analysis. As a result of the study, the authors conclude that the systematic analysis of didactic materials, submitted on the basis of comparison and comparison of reflexive verbal units with their correspondences or analogues in other languages, helps to create the necessary algorithms for task complexes aimed at teaching foreigners grammar of Russian as a foreign language not only in the classroom under the guidance of a teacher, but also with online learning on various educational platforms, both in remote mode and in the mode of independent work.
