Maria Montessori's psychological and pedagogical concept

Psychological and pedagogical issues of modern education- Author:
- Aleksandr I. Kugai
- Work direction:
- Глава 9
- Abstract:
- The chapter reveals the main provisions of the psychological and pedagogical concept of the world-famous teacher Maria Montessori. The core of her method was feelings. Therefore, she criticized traditional educational practice for starting with ideas and intellect. «Often a scientist who has grasped an idea encounters great difficulties in doing the work we give him, because we have omitted from his education a factor of primary importance, namely, the cultivation of feelings." The mental development of a child occurs spontaneously. Education is not something that a teacher gives. It is a natural and spontaneous process carried out by the child himself. The essence of the Montessori method is what is now called innovative education – the creation of an environment in which children could learn and grow independently of adults, be free to do things on their own and learn at their own pace. In a Montessori classroom, the learning process is controlled not by the interpersonal relationship between a teacher and a child, but by didactic materials. Each element of this equipment was assessed on a pragmatic basis: does the child's competence grow from contact with the material. No tricks were used to attract the child's attention. The didactic materials were designed to be initially interesting and in such a way that the child could correct himself without the help of the teacher.

- Abstract:
- The chapter is devoted to an urgent and socially significant problem of the formation of ideas about adult work in older preschool children. Currently, the state's social order in education is aimed at developing a socially active and responsible personality of a preschool child who loves work and is capable of transforming the world around him. The main goal of labor education is to develop preschool children's work skills, a positive attitude to work, and a desire to become independent, active, responsible, disciplined, self–confident, able to cope with difficulties, and provide help and support to others. The formation of primary ideas about adult work, its role in society and in the life of every person contributes to the awareness of the need for work and the formation of a system of appropriate values.

Modern issues of pedagogy and psychology: theoretical and methodological approaches and practical research results- Author:
- Aleksandr I. Kugai

- Abstract:
- Among the classic works on the philosophy of education, the work of George Herbert Mead occupies a special place. Mead points out that we usually approach education in reverse, focusing, even in the early years, on assessing and ranking children on their individual performance. We also make adult goals central, breaking adult understandings into fragments that children absorb piecemeal, without meaning. Mead suggests that these priorities should be reversed. We should begin with simple social activities, such as play, which involves shared activities or simple division of roles. We should also begin with an emphasis on social-emotional comfort and connection rather than intellectual activity, gradually moving to more autonomous and intellectually oriented activities.

Cognitive component of attitude to energy saving in older preschool children and primary school children
Research Article
Development of education Volume 8 No 1- Author:
- Tatyana V. Aleksandrova
- Work direction:
- Psychology in Education
- Abstract:
- The article presents the results of a study of the cognitive component of attitudes towards energy saving among older preschoolers and younger schoolchildren. The relevance of the study is due to the unworthy attention of the education system to the issue of developing an environmental, energy-saving attitude in children, given the obvious need to form a modern person focused on rational, energy-saving behavior. The article presents the results of an empirical study based on the author's methodology to study the content of the cognitive component of attitudes towards energy saving, and describes the types of motives for energy saving in children aged 5–10 years. The levels of formation of cognitive attitudes towards energy saving are identified and described. Children have an average level of formation of the cognitive component of the attitude to energy saving. Ideas about energy saving are unclear, vague. From senior preschool to junior school age, positive dynamics in the development of the cognitive component is observed. The dominant motive for energy saving is the motive of avoiding discomfort. With age, the content of ideas about energy saving is clarified and the energy saving motive itself begins to clearly stand out. With age, motives of personal benefit give way to motives of social significance. The formation of the cognitive component of the attitude to energy saving is influenced by the attitudes of adults, as well as the content of education. Mastering school subjects that cover environmental issues, as well as developing new forms of thinking in younger students, contributes to the development of a cognitive attitude towards energy conservation.

- Abstract:
- This study investigated the relationship between coping strategies and academic resilience among pupils with special needs in Kwara Central, Nigeria. A descriptive survey research design was adopted. The population was all children with special needs in primary and secondary schools of the State. The sample comprised 400 pupils with special needs purposely selected from 20 schools, both special and regular schools. Two data collection instruments used included the Coping Strategies Rating Scale (CSRS) and Pupils’ Academic Resilience Rating Scale (PARRS), validated for face and content validity and tested for reliability with coefficients of 0.82 and 0.85, respectively. Descriptive statistics of frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation was used to analyse the two questions raised while inferential statistics of Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) was used to analyse the only hypothesis formulated at the 0.05 level of significance. The results revealed moderate levels of coping strategies (weighted mean = 2.40) and academic resilience (weighted mean = 2.44). The result also showed a strong a positive correlation between coping techniques and academic resilience (r-value is 0.713). These findings indicate the need to focus on building appropriate coping mechanisms to promote resilience in children with exceptional needs. Based on the findings, the study recommended teacher training, appropriate learning methodologies, and supporting school policies to increase children' adaptive capacities and boost academic resilience among children with exceptional needs.

- Abstract:
- The article, based on the method of theoretical analysis and generalization of pedagogical experience, identifies the features of the education system in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), considers the organization of a nomadic camp as a new form in the concept of small-scale and nomadic education in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). In the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, the problem of preserving the Even language became acute. This became the starting point in organizing a nomadic camp as a new form of teaching the native language and culture among the Evens. Until 2000, there were no such organizational forms in the Russian Federation, this became an innovation in the field of education in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The first experience, supported by regional authorities, was successful and was continued in various forms: ecological, ethnoecological, labor, etc. camps. The experience of the first nomadic camp was analyzed, and a number of significant measures were taken, including in the field of scientific and methodological support of the educational process. We especially recommend the positive experience of the nomadic camp for use in the context of continuous additional education in the regions, as well as for solving the problems of preserving the native language and culture.

- Abstract:
- This article presents the results of a study of the relationship between the level of self-esteem and the level of development of logical thinking in children of senior preschool and primary school age. It was found that in children of senior preschool age, the level of logical thinking is higher with inflated and inadequately inflated self-esteem, but primary school children demonstrate a high level of logical thinking with an adequately formed self-esteem. The results of the study indicate the presence of a significant correlation between self-esteem and logical thinking. These studies indicate that the completion of the formation of self-esteem during the transition from senior preschool age, the period of formation of logical operations, to primary school age, which is the foundation for the formation of adequate self-esteem, contributes to the harmonious development and timely formation of logical thinking.

- Abstract:
- Summer teaching practice is an opportunity for students to test their professional expectations and ambitions, to understand their strengths and weaknesses as a future teacher. Teaching practice of students in modern society is incredibly relevant and important for several reasons: Many countries around the world are facing an acute shortage of qualified teachers and educators. Teaching practice provides an opportunity for future specialists to gain practical experience working with children and adolescents, which increases their competitiveness in the labor market and helps to fill the personnel shortage. Theoretical knowledge obtained at the university is not sufficient for successful work in the educational sphere. Practice allows students to apply the acquired knowledge in practice, to practice the skills of communicating with children, managing a team, developing and conducting lessons or educational events. This forms the professional competencies necessary for effective work wit

- Abstract:
- The article presents the results of a longitudinal study comparing the dynamics of life values development in adolescents with mental retardation and normotypic peers. The study of the dominant values of normal adolescents and adolescents with mental retardation was carried out at the municipal autonomous educational institution secondary comprehensive school No. 157, Yekaterinburg, in the period from 2021 to 2023. The life values of adolescents were diagnosed using two methods: "Methodology for the Study of Value Orientations" (M. Rokeach), "Hierarchy of Life Values" (G.V. Rezapkina). The study showed that adolescents with mental retardation and normotypic peers have similar life values, but with some noticeable differences. These differences emphasize the importance of providing individual support to adolescents with mental retardation, which will contribute to their personal growth. The obtained data will also be of interest to teachers, parents and specialists who organize and implement correctional and developmental work, ensuring the well-being of adolescents with mental retardation. The study of the dynamics of the development of values of adolescents of the norm and mental retardation allowed us to conduct a comparative analysis and determine the trends in the formation of values in these categories of adolescents.

Features of the structural components of self-awareness in children aged 5-6 years in the aspect of parent-child relationships
Research Article
Development of education Volume 7 No 4- Author:
- Olga N. Bykova
- Work direction:
- Psychology in Education
- Abstract:
- This article presents the results of an experimental study devoted to the study of the features of the structural components of self-awareness in children aged 5–6 years in the aspect of child-parent relationships. Addressing the designated issue is associated with the presence of significant deformations in the system of child-parent relationships recorded in recent decades in modern families, which negatively affect the personal development of the younger generation. Particularly significant in this issue is the preschool period, when the fundamental foundations of the child's personality are formed, first of all, the ability to realize his or her Self. At the same time, despite the increased relevance of the designated problem, it can be stated that it has not been finally resolved. The purpose of the study is to identify the features of the structural components of self-awareness in children aged 5–6 years in the aspect of child-parent relationships. The research methods are theoretical analysis and generalization of scientific literature on the research problem, ascertaining experiment, quantitative and qualitative analysis of the obtained data, methods of their interpretation. Results of the study: during the experimental study, the hypothesis was confirmed that the features of the structural components of self-awareness in children aged 5–6 years in the aspect of parent-child relationships are as follows: harmonious relationships between parents and a child in the family contribute to the formation of a higher level of the "I-image", a claim to recognition, a sense of gender identity, a sense of oneself in time, an understanding of one’s rights and responsibilities compared to disharmonious ones.

The first pedologists of the Chuvash Republic and their experience in the study of Chuvash children
Review Article
Ethnic Culture Volume 6 No 3- Authors:

- Work direction:
- Ethno-Cultural Problems of Education
- Abstract:
- The article is devoted to the study of the activities of pedologists of the Chuvash ASSR and aims to analyze the historically first study devoted to the intelligence of Chuvash children. The study is based on the publications of the first pedologists from Chuvashia F. P. Petrov and M. E. Efimov. In accordance with the historical and psychological methods described by V. A. Koltsova, the work uses problematic and source study methods. The study is written in the aspect of the history of pedagogy. A graduate student of the Kazan Oriental Pedagogical Institute, F. P. Petrov with a team of students, for the first time carried out a comprehensive study of the intellectual development of Chuvash children using the Binet-Simon test method, widely known among Soviet pedologists. At first, pedologists took the test method in Russian, then it was translated into the Chuvash language with appropriate text changes in relation to the everyday and speech characteristics of the Chuvash. The result of the study was the book published in Cheboksary, "The experience of studying the intellectual development of Chuvash children using the Binet-Simon method", published in 1928. The book caused serious objections from the head of the pedological office at the Chuvash Scientific Research Institute M. E. Efimov; he believed that the author was biased against Chuvash children and violated the methodological principle of making tests. The correspondence polemic between two Chuvash pedologists about the measurement of children’s intelligence, along with similar cases in the country’s republics, prompted L. S. Vygotsky to call for an understanding of the problems of national pedology, with its leading problem – the measurement of intelligence.
