The level structure of teaching motivation
Book Chapter
Issues of education and psychology- Author:
- Galina A. Glotova
- Work direction:
- Глава 4
- Abstract:
- This chapter discusses a three-level model of learning motivation, which includes the levels of general and academic emotional orientation, as well as the level of specific learning motives. The study used the following methods: «General Emotional Orientation» (Dodonov, 1978), «Academic Emotional Orientation» (Glotova, 2025), «Diagnostics of University Students’ and High School Students’ Learning Motivation» (Badmaeva, 2004), «Academic Motivation Scales» (Gordeeva, Sychev, Osin, 2014), «Comprehensive Assessment of Learning Motivation – Pilot Scales» (Glotova, Shipilova, 2025). The study, conducted using a Google form, was voluntarily and anonymously participated by 86 school students of grades 10–11 and college students. When processing data, correlation analysis (by Spearman) was used. The results of the study confirmed the hierarchical structure of learning motivation, which includes three levels with multiple significant correlations between them; despite the different names of the scales of three methods due to the theoretical and methodological preferences of the authors, a large number of significant correlations have been obtained between these scales; the scales of motives for subject activity in learning correlate more closely with each other than with the scales of communication motives, and vice versa, the scales of communication motives in learning correlate more closely with each other than with the scales of subject activity motives; the three levels of learning motivation are related to the categories of «activity», «actions» and «operations» of learning proposed by A.N. Leontiev (1975).

The use of a problem-based learning approach for the formation of a conceptual framework in the study of disciplines of the natural science cycle
Book Chapter
Current issues of pedagogy and psychology- Author:
- Galina V. Egorova
- Work direction:
- Глава 3
- Abstract:
- The chapter is devoted to the application of problem-based learning technologies in the study of natural science disciplines. The problem-based approach contributes not only to the acquisition of knowledge, but also to the formation of necessary skills such as critical thinking, teamwork, and high adaptability to changing conditions. It is known that in the process of solving a problem, students can not only find answers to the questions posed, but also analyze the situation, put forward hypotheses, check various options and draw conclusions. This develops analytical abilities and activates cognitive processes, which are the basis for further education and professional activity. The chapter discusses some aspects of the formation of a biological conceptual framework. It is noted that problem-based learning is based on the development of critical thinking among teachers. Interactive methods are widely used in problem-based learning. In addition, the approach in which assignments are linked to real-life situations or scientific activities helps students see the practical application of the knowledge they receive, which contributes to their deeper understanding and memorization. Creating conditions for polylogue, discussions and dialogues within the classroom improves communication skills and develops creative thinking.

- Глава 17
- Abstract:
- The study focuses on a comparative analysis of the cultural-activity approach and the theory of self-determination related to learning and the diagnotics of learning motives. In addition to the theoretical analysis, the study presents the results of an empirical study of the perceptions of high school students and college students regarding learning motives, which was conducted using a voluntary, anonymous online survey conducted on a Google form. The sample consisted of 107 9th-11th grade students and college students aged 14–19 years. Four methods were used: «Diagnotics of University Students’ (and High School Students’) Learning Motivation» (Badmaeva, 2004), «Academic Motivation Scales» (Gordeeva, Sychev, Osin, 2014), «Comprehensive Assessment of Learning Motivation» (Vartanova, 2000), and «Comprehensive Assessment of Learning Motivation – Pilot Scales», which includes six scales derived from this questionnaire (Glotova, Sh ipilova, 2025). Correlation analysis (according to Spearman) and factor analysis with Varimax rotation were used to process the data. As a result of the study, multiple correlations were obtained between the scales of the four methods; factor analysis revealed the influence of the «social spectrum» learning motive factor and the three «activity spectrum» learning motive factors in the perceptions of high school students; it was shown that the differences in the distribution of the scales of the four methods relative to the identified factors are largely due to the theoretical and methodological differences between the cultural-activity approach and the theory of self-determination, which underlie the methods of diagnosing learning motivation and the learning technologies associated with these approaches.

- Глава 15
- Abstract:
- The study is devoted to the research of older adolescents' ideas about their parents' attitude towards them and the relationships of these ideas with the motives of learning. A correlation study was performed based on a voluntary, anonymous online survey of older adolescents conducted in a Google form. The main sample for studying the relationships between the motives of learning and the ideas of older adolescents about their parents' attitude towards them consisted of 111 students in grades 9–11 and college students aged 14–18 years. Two methods were used: the questionnaire «Adolescents about parents» (ADOR), which allows assessing adolescents' ideas of their parents' attitude towards them separately for mothers and fathers (Wasserman et al., 2001); the questionnaire «Comprehensive assessment of motivation for learning activities» (Vartanova, 2000). Correlation analysis (according to Spearman) was used in data processing. The results showed the presence of a stable core of significant correlations, manifested for both mothers and fathers, between adolescents' ideas about their parents' attitude towards them and the motives of learning. The stable core of the relationships consisted of two positive correlations between the scale of parents' «positive interest» in an adolescent's life and studies and the pilot scales of learning motives selected from the unified scale of motivation for learning activities, such as «the motive of caring for the future» and «the motive of being a professional student». The stable core also includes a negative correlation of the scale of parents' «inconsistency» towards the adolescent with his «motive of caring for the future». In addition, differences were found in the correlations between adolescents' ideas of their mothers' attitude and their fathers' attitude towards them with pilot scales of adolescents' motives of learning.
